Mission

Educational Technology Services promotes and supports the effective integration of technology in teaching, learning and communication at the University of California, Berkeley. We are dedicated to service, partnership, and innovation.

Vision

The vision of the University of California, Berkeley, is to be the world's leading university in the creation, dissemination, and application of knowledge. Through the continuous pursuit of excellence in all of its endeavors, the University will advance the frontiers of knowledge in the traditional disciplines and open new frontiers in and between new and old realms of knowledge.

As a University committed to fulfilling its public trust, it will endeavor to educate citizens for the global responsibility of enlarging understanding, promoting justice, reducing suffering, and enriching the human experience.

Within that vision we at ETS feel we have a special responsibility for the dissemination of knowledge, for advancing those frontiers and for enriching the human experience.

What is ETS?

Educational Technology Services is the central campus resource providing course web sites, classroom technology support and installation, webcasting, multimedia production, teleconferencing, video and audio, and technology support for University events. ETS also provides consulting and training on how to use these and other tools for effective teaching, learning and communication. ETS actively participates in international learning technology standards setting organizations to foster the development of interoperable software and reusable content. ETS is also the home of KALX Radio, the UC Berkeley community radio station.

ETS is 60 professionals and support staff with expertise in making technologies useful at Berkeley and about 30 student assistants. We primarily support courses, undergraduate and graduate, but we also use our expertise and resources to support research, student life and all the administrative and departmental functions of the University. Through KALX radio we serve listeners throughout the Bay Area and through our work with standards setting bodies we serve future learners throughout the world.

Our Place in the University

Educational Technology Services reports directly to the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, Christina Maslach, http://education.berkeley.edu/ and works in close partnership with Information Systems and Technology (http://ist.berkeley.edu/).
