How To Library: How to Finalize Grades in the Gradebook of a site in bSpace

This document will demonstrate how to finalize grades in the bSpace Gradebook including:

Changing grade options
Reviewing and changing final course grades
Exporting final course grades to E-Grades

Before you begin, make sure:

  • you are logged in to bSpace with your CalNet ID or guest account (http://bspace.berkeley.edu)
  • you have clicked the tab for the site you want to update
  • you have editing privileges in the site

Steps

Changing Grade Options

  1. Click Gradebook in the left toolbar.

  2. On the Overview screen, click the Grade options button at the top of the screen.

  3. On the “Grade Options” screen, the “Grade Display” area contains the following options:

    •  Display any released assignments and entered scores to students. Assignments that have been individually set to "released" will not display to students until this is checked

    •  Display course grades to students now. Note: A student's calculated course grade is based on the score entries for all assignments marked to be included in the course grade calculation, including any assignments that have not been released. Blank score entries for assignments included in the course grade calculation are treated as zeros.

  4. (Optional). The default grade type for final course grades is letter grades with +/- (B+, B-, and so on). You can change this to letter grades without +/- or pass/no pass. To do this, select your choice from the Grade Type dropdown menu and click the Change grade type button .

  5. (Optional) You can also change the numeric values for a custom grading scale. There are default minimum percentages for letter grades with +/-. You can change these minimums by typing new values in the text boxes.

  7. When you're finished, click Save.

Reviewing and Changing Final Course Grades

  1. To review and change final grades for your course, click the Course Grade link at the bottom of the “Overview” screen.

  2. On the Course Grade screen, you can review students' cumulative grades in the “Calculated Grade” column. You can override the calculated grades in the “Grade Override” column, if necessary. If you make any changes on this screen, click the Save button .

Exporting Final Course Grades to E-Grades

  1. To export the final course grades in preparation for submission to E-Grades, click the Export to Excel button or Export CSV button at the bottom of the “Course Grade” screen (The “Course Grade” screen can be accessed by clicking the “Course Grade” link at the bottom of the “Overview” screen) . You can choose either format, Excel or CSV, depending on your preference.

You can now use the Gradebook tool to change grade options, review and change final course grades, and export the final course grades to E-Grades. into the Gradebook tool.
