The Web Content tool can be used to add a link to a list of items on reserve at the library, if an active course reserve list exists for the class.
This document will demonstrate how to
- Add the Web Content tool to your site
- Customize the Web Content tool to target the library reserves for a specific class
- you are logged in to bSpace with your CalNet ID or guest account (http://bspace.berkeley.edu)
- you have clicked the tab for the site you want to update
- you have editing privileges in the site
Steps
-
Let's begin by adding the Web Content tool to your site. Click Site Info in the toolbar.
-
Click the Edit Tools button at the top of the screen .
-
Near the bottom of the screen, mark the box to the left of “Web Content” and then click Continue.
- The next screen will be the “Customize Tools” screen. In the “Title” field, type “Library Reserves.”
-
Copy and paste the following link into the “URL” field:
http://sunsite2.berkeley.edu:8088/Reserves/servlet/Reserves?cname= XXXX &instr= YYYY &source=bspace
-
Now we need to edit the URL you just pasted so that it is a custom link to the library reserves for your class.
Replace the XXXX in the URL with the Library's 4 letter departmental abbreviation for your class, plus your class number. You can find the library's departmental abbreviations here: http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/services/dept_abbr.html .
For example, the course Architecture 199 would be “ARCH199.” (Note: The Library departmental abbreviation for your class may be different than that found in the course catalog.)
The YYYY in the URL above should be replaced with the last name of the instructor. For example, a course taught by Frank Lloyd Wright would be “Wright.”
The entire URL for the class Architecture 199 taught by Frank Lloyd Wright would be:
http://sunsite2.berkeley.edu:8088/Reserves/servlet/Reserves?cname=Arch199&instr=Wright&source=bspace
-
There is a drop down to add more Web Content tools, but as we are only adding the Library Reserves URL, you can skip this step.
-
Once you've edited the URL in the URL field with the information specific to your class, click Continue .
- On the next screen, click Finish to finalize the changes.
- The Library Reservces link should now appear in the toolbar on the left side of the screen.
Tip: If the “Library Reserves” link doesn't link to the correct reserves list on the library's website, check the following:
- You've correctly edited the URL you pasted with the library (not course catalog) department abbreviation + class number, and the last name of the instructor. To double-check this, click Library Reserves in the toolbar and then click Options at the top of the frame.
- The class has an active course reserve list this semester
