Faculty Technology Program 2007

ETS will hold the 10th annual Faculty Technology Program (FTP) from June 5th through the 7th, 2007.
FTP is free to the UC faculty community. Registration closed on May 20th.

Join Educational Technology Services during this multi-day event. Attend a variety of presentations, workshops and open lab sessions designed to introduce the instructional tools and systems supported by ETS. In addition to learning new skills, FTP provides the opportunity for Berkeley faculty to discuss best practices for using technology to improve teaching and learning.

Tuesday June 5
8:30 to 9:00 Registration: Sign in, pick up binders, enjoy coffee & a continental breakfast.
9:00 to 10:00

FTP Welcome: Meet your hosts from Educational Technology Services and hear about this year's program.

10:00 to 10:15 Break
10:15 to 12:15 Getting Started in bSpace: In this hands-on workshop, you will create a bSpace site for your course or project, and learn how to use the various bSpace features and tools.
12:15 to 1:30 Lunch & Faculty Presenters: Join us for lunch and hear your peers talk about their experience of applying technology to teaching.
1:30 to 3:30 What's in Your Wiki: Learn how to use the bSpace Wiki tool to create online documents which can be edited collaboratively by members of your site. Some example academic uses of the Wiki tool include collaboratively created annotated bibliographies and glossaries.
   
Wednesday June 6
8:30 to 9:00 Coffee & pastries : Mingle and ask questions
9:00 to 10:00 Teaching Showcase: Learn from Webcasts: View short webcast clips showcasing recipients of the Distinguished Teaching Award and join in a discussion about good teaching practices.
10:00 to 10:15 Break
10:15 to 12:15 Managing Grades Online: Learn how to use the bSpace Gradebook tool to manage grades in your class. This workshop also covers how to run basic grade calculations (i.e. weighted grades, dropping the lowest grade) in Excel and import the scores back into bSpace.
12:15 to 1:30 Lunch & Faculty Presenters: Join us for lunch and hear your peers talk about their experience of applying technology to teaching.
1:30 to 3:00 Customize Your bSpace: Learn how to customize your bSpace site using advanced techniques like displaying an image on the Home page, linking to custom HTML pages in Resources, and pointing directly to course materials from the Syllabus.
   
Thursday June 7
8:30 to 9:00 Coffee & pastries : Mingle and ask questions
9:00 to 10:30 Uncovering Library Resources: This hands-on workshop covers finding and integrating library electronic content into your bSpace site and course syllabus.
10:30 to 10:45 Break
10:45 to 12:15 Getting Started in PowerPoint: Learn how to create a simple presentation, including text and images, for use in your course.
12:15 to 1:30 Lunch & Conversation About Teaching in bSpace: This discussion-based seminar will focus on using bSpace to make a positive impact on student learning. We will discuss the "Seven Principles of Good Practice in Undergraduate Education" (Chickering & Gamson, 1991) and how they can be implemented in bSpace. This is an opportunity to share ideas and experience about what works and what doesn't in online collaboration and learning.
1:30 to 3:30 FTP Wrap Up - Applying What You've Learned: Join Educational Technology Services staff in a preview of enhancements for Fall 2007. Plus, join us in a discussion focused on real world application of FTP content.
