Active Learning Classroom "Test Kitchen"

Dwinelle 127 Classroom Layout

Recently ETS was given the challenge to create a "test kitchen," a space where faculty and instructors can be more innovative in their teaching practice and where students can engage actively in the teaching and learning process. Thanks to the Campus Committee on Classroom Policy and Management, ETS is creating such a space in Dwinelle 127, an ETS departmental classroom seating up to 32 students.

What was a state-of-the-art video conferencing space and distance education classroom built in 1995, will be transformed into a new learning environment. Faculty will be able to experiment with updated a/v equipment, flexible furniture that can be configured to match the teaching activities of the class, portable writing surfaces, new carpet, and energy-efficient lights. Three windows, which have been covered, will be exposed to create an environmentally-friendly classroom. The new Active Learning Classroom is scheduled to go online for the 2011 Fall semester.

Check out the before and during renovation pictures as we build out the new “test kitchen” and stay informed as we move ahead with the transformation process.
