Display a PC Laptop through a projector

Display a PC Laptop

Not all laptops display in the same way, for instructions specific to your laptop model please reference the owner's manual.

  • Turn on the data projector

  • Let the projector warm up until the On light stops blinking

  • Securely connect all cables (make sure VGA cable does not have bent pins)

  • Some laptops will automatically detect the projector and display the desktop. If after the laptop has booted up, and the projector has warmed up, you do not see the laptop desktop image displayed throught the projector, you can enable your laptop to display by pressing one of the following combinations of keys
Common Brand PC Display Function Keys
Dell HP IBM Sony VAIO Toshiba

Fn + F8

Fn + F4

Fn + F7

Fn + F7

Fn + F5

Since not all laptops are the same, your display key may be a different one than listed above. Look for a key that says "CRT/LCD" or any of these symbols pictured on the right.

On most laptops, the "Fn" key is between the "Ctrl" and "Alt" keys.

Most laptops will have three display options, which are typically:

  • The desktop will only show the laptop
  • The desktop will show on both the laptop and screen
  • The desktop will only show on the screen

To toggle between the different display options, press the functions keys againuntil you find a suitable display option.
