Connect a computer to a monitor or projector using a VGA cable

A VGA cable is the standard video cable used for connecting laptops and computers to monitors and projectors.

Macs require a VGA adapter to connect to the VGA cable in order to display the computer through a data projector.

Location in the Classroom

VGA cables are located on hooks, which are located on the outside of the equipment black boxes and cabinets. If the cable is not there, or there is no hook, locate the cubbyhole within the black box. To open the cubbyhole, put your thumb in the latch and press down while pulling towards you. You should find the VGA cable within.

Missing/Broken VGA Cables

If the cable is not on either the hook or in the cubbyhole, you may find that it has been left elsewhere in the classroom.

A VGA cable may be broken if the pins appear bent or if the displayed image has a noticeable color tint.

To report a missing or broken VGA cable, please call 510-643-8637 or email avrequest@media.berkeley.edu.
