To access the internet on A DHCP network, a computer must be registered with the campus service and it must be configured to use DHCP to obtain its network settings.
To register a computer, you first need to determine the hardware address of the computer's wired network interface. The hardware address is commonly called the Ethernet Adapter Address, Physical Address or the Media Access Control (MAC) address.
The address is a 6-byte hexadecimal number. Each digit can be either a number from 0-9 or a letter from A-F (letters are case-insensitive). The address is sometimes separated by dashes or colons (e.g., 00-80-C7-CF-83-A2, 00:80:c7:cf:83:a2).
More information on locating your device's hardware address may be found at the Student Computer Consulting Service website on their Documentation page.

A web application is available for self service registration of computers by students, faculty and staff. Go to this URL to begin the registration process:
https://net-sec2.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/dns-db/dhcp/dhcpreg.pl
Type in the hardware address and click register. Your registration will take effect immediately. Registration via the web application allows the registered computer to obtain dynamic DHCP service on any network with available addresses.
The campus DHCP service is provided by Information Services and Technology (IST).
